The BlueOnyx MariaDB Upgrade Package delivers a production-ready upgrade path to a newer MariaDB version while preserving system compatibility and stability.
It enables organizations running BlueOnyx 5210R, 5211R, or 5212R to benefit from current MariaDB enhancements, performance improvements, and updated security patches — without risking disruption to existing services or applications.
MariaDB is the database engine powering millions of installations worldwide — from large enterprise platforms to embedded systems — and forms the core database service on all BlueOnyx servers.
BlueOnyx 5212R, 5211R, and 5210R ship with stable, production-tested MariaDB versions optimized for reliability and compatibility. However, some installations require newer database features, improved performance, or consistent version alignment across multiple servers.
The BlueOnyx MariaDB Upgrade Package provides a fully tested, drop-in upgrade path to modern MariaDB releases while preserving full integration with the BlueOnyx platform. Once linked to your BlueOnyx server, this package offers the appropriate supported MariaDB version for installation, based on your platform release.
Before installation: Always ensure that your databases are fully backed up.
The upgrade can be managed directly from the BlueOnyx GUI. If the package is uninstalled, it automatically removes all upgraded and replaced RPM packages and restores the original operating system MariaDB packages via YUM.
Please note: After upgrading, your database files may be converted to formats that are no longer compatible with the original stock MariaDB versions. Therefore, uninstalling this package after use may prevent your databases from functioning with the default database engine. Do not uninstall unless you fully understand the implications and have verified compatibility or prepared suitable backups.
Available for the following BlueOnyx versions:
- BlueOnyx 5212R — MariaDB 10.11 and 11.4
- BlueOnyx 5211R — MariaDB 10.11 and 11.4
- BlueOnyx 5210R — MariaDB 11.4
Version selection:
BlueOnyx 5212R includes MariaDB 10.11 as its standard bundled version. Installing the 10.11 upgrade package on older BlueOnyx systems (5210R or 5211R) allows you to standardize your database platform across all servers for consistent management and compatibility.
Alternatively, all supported BlueOnyx versions may be upgraded to the newer MariaDB 11.4 release, providing access to the latest features, performance improvements, and security updates.
PHP compatibility:
Database access requires compatible PHP database drivers. This package includes the necessary client libraries to remain fully compatible with the stock BlueOnyx PHP versions. Additionally, all supported PHP upgrades available from the BlueOnyx shop include built-in compatibility provisions for both the standard MariaDB installations and the upgraded versions provided by this package.
