What's new in v8.0 (2026)
AV-SPAM v8.0 is a clean-sheet rebuild that replaces the legacy SpamAssassin-based engine with Rspamd, a modern, high-performance spam filtering platform used by major email providers worldwide.
What this means for you:
- Dramatically faster scanning - Rspamd processes mail in 0.5–2.5 seconds compared to SpamAssassin's typical 20–40 seconds per message
- Better detection rates through multiple scoring layers (rules, Bayes, neural networks, fuzzy matching)
- Modern authentication standards built-in: SPF, DMARC, and ARC validation
- Richer statistics and real-time analytics via the GUI
- SiteAdmins and end users can now configure their own settings - sender lists, scoring overrides, and delivery actions were previously server-admin-only
- SiteAdmins and end users get detailed traffic and filtering statistics scoped to their own level - previously unavailable in the GUI
What you need to know:
- SpamAssassin is no longer included - the module now uses Rspamd exclusively
- Existing custom SpamAssassin rules are not automatically migrated - you will need to recreate them using the new Custom Rules editor
- The update replaces the previous AV-SPAM installation; the old version is uninstalled cleanly before v8.0 is installed

System requirements
- BlueOnyx 5212R, 5211R, or 5210R
- Root access for installation (this is a server-level module that configures Postfix)
- Redis or Valkey is required for Bayes learning, fuzzy checks, and history storage:
- BlueOnyx 5210R/5211R: Redis included by default
- BlueOnyx 5212R: Valkey included (Redis-compatible)

History
Since 1998 we have provided email security software for Sausalito-based platforms. AV-SPAM was first released in 2002 and has been continuously maintained. Version 8.0 (2026) is a ground-up rebuild based on Rspamd, designed to meet modern spam and abuse patterns while retaining the tight GUI integration that BlueOnyx administrators expect.
